Modi government’s silence on corruption

The plan of anti-corruption adopted by BJP which came to power in 2014 Lok Sabha elections has today gone back on its own original promise. Investigations into Panama Papers have begun all over the world but the Modi Government is still silent on the independent inquiries. The anti-corruption laws and institutions are being diluted by Modi Government and till date, no Lokpal member has been appointed. The demonetization phase that took place some months ago by the motive of bringing black money back has provided no gains. Political as well as Institutional steps are required to be taken to end corruption and black money.

It is noted that there are names of many famous personalities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Gautam Adani’s brother, Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh’s son, DLF’s KP Singh noted in Panama Papers. The government has made Amitabh Bachchan the brand ambassador for GST instead of launching the allegations of tax evasion. How ironic is it?

Zero Tolerance on Corruption’ has also proved to be another ‘Jumla’. The government is on silent mode instead of investigating in such serious case of corruption. The only attempts that are being taken by the government in this grave case are of the attempt to hide and suppress the case.

A free and fair investigation is being demanded by Swaraj India, against all those who have been listed in Panama Papers. Also, independent investigation is also required in cases of corruption such as Kalikho Pul Suicide note, Augusta-Westland, and the Sahara Birla Diaries. Otherwise the adoption of BJP Government regarding “Zero Tolerance on Corruption” will become a joke. There is a need to maintain the political and institutional areas to tackle the problems of corruption. It is still a question and will remain a question till Modi Government is silent regarding these serious issues on corruption.
