Another sanitation worker lost his life on 20th August of 2017  just because of the insensitivity by the Delhi Government towards the problems that sanitation workers face. The sanitation worker inhaled some poisonous gases while he was cleaning a sewer in front of Gate No. 2 of Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital and as a result, he lost his life. Along with him, the two more sanitation worker who was working with him was admitted to the hospital; as they also inhaled some poisonous gases emanating from the sewer.

Under the purview of the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi Government the job of cleaning sewer falls. Without providing any safety equipment, the sanitation workers were employed by the PWD. For the loss of the life of sanitation worker and the two other workers being admitted in the hospital due to inhaling of the poisonous gases, Swaraj India held Delhi Government responsible for this. But Arvind Kejriwal‘s  Delhi Government is maintaining a deafening silence over it.

The tragic events of the day have proven that Delhi Government severely lacks sensitivity towards the sanitation workers and all the problems faced by them,” said Anupam, the Party’s Chief Spokesperson, and Delhi State President.

AAP  was being supported by the sanitation workers in the hope that it would bring some positive change in their lives. But the same party that used ‘BROOM’ as their election symbol betrayed all the sanitation workers of Delhi after coming into power. Even today, all the government departments and the contractors force the sanitation workers to go inside the sewer lines, that are filled with poisonous gases and that too without any safety gear”, said Anupam. This incident is a sad reflection on how serious the Delhi Government is towards ensuring cleanliness in Delhi, added Anupam.

The recent death of 4 sanitation workers had left the people of Delhi in shock and we heard of one more sanitation worker today.

The Delhi Government must bring a white paper on the problems that are being faced by the sanitation workers in Delhi and a plan to solve all their problems and issues, Anupam demanded. The government must also ensure that no sanitation worker be sent inside the sewer lines without providing them with the safety equipment, was also demanded by Anupam.
