Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos becomes the world’s richest person on Thursday morning when Amazon’s stock grows by 1 percent. According to the real time list of billionaires compiled by Forbes, Mr. Bezos had an estimated wealth of $90.6 billion as compared to $90 billion of Microsoft founder Mr. Gates on Thursday morning.
Now, the stock of Amazon settled down later in the day, which again makes Microsoft founder, Philanthropist Bill Gates world’s richest person in the world. Mr. Gates has been holding this title for the longest period of time. Carlos Slim, Amancio Ortega, and Warren Buffet are some other notable personality, who have claimed this title in past.
Amazon has declared its second quarter earnings, which shows $197 million profit, all thanks to sales worth $38 billion. Amazon’s profit is 77 percent lesser than that of last year’s. The main reason behind the dip in the profit is the extensive investment made by Amazon.
Jeff Bezos fortune will see ups and downs based on the stock price in near future, but currently, he is the second richest person in the world behind Bill Gates.
Bill Gates is known for his philanthropy works, the billionaire had founded the Giving Pledge along with Warren Buffet. It was created in order to encourage billionaire to give at least half of their worth to the charitable causes. As of 2016, Bill Gates has donated $31.1 billion, which is huge. Jeff Bezos, who has not signed the pledge, had given almost $100 million to charity by the end of 2015. This is the basic difference between Mr. Bezos and Mr. Gates. If Gates had not given that much of money, Mr. Bezos would have never come close to becoming the World’s richest person at all.
Jeff Bezos is the founder, chairman, and CEO of world’s largest online shopping retailer Amazon.com. Jeff Bezos personal fortune comprises the 80 million shares in Amazon. It seems like Gates and Bezos would be exchanging place, based on the Amazon’s share.
