Sensex Upswing: 35k-mark for the first time

The stock market index of some companies listed on Bombay Stock Exchange is called the BSE Sensex or simply Sensex. BSE SENSEX is the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index. It includes 30 well-established and financially sound companies securing a place on the list of Bombay Stock Exchange. In India, the publishing of Sensex has been done since 1 January 1986, considering it as the pulse of domestic stock markets. The term Sensex was given by Deepak Mohoni, a stock market analyst.


Sensex has been achieving milestones since 1990. Achieving 1000 on 25 July 1990, 10000 on 7 February 2006, 25000 on 16 May 2014 and 34000 on 26 December 2017, it has now got the first close above 35000 level on 17 January 2018. The 30-share Sensex leaped 310.77 points, ending at a new peak of 35,081.82. This level has been achieved breaking its previous record of 34,843.51 reached on January 15. The index scaled the 35000 mark by going through 17 sessions since 26 December.Bombay Stock Exchange


The NIFTY index is the National Stock Exchange of India’s benchmark based stock market index for the Indian equity market. It is one of the two main stock indices used in India, the other being the BSE Sensex. It is owned and managed by India Index Services and Products (IISL). IISL is a completely owned subsidiary of the NSE Strategic Investment Corporation Limited. Gushing 88.10 points, to close at a new pinnacle of 10788.55, Nifty breaks its previous record of 10741.55. It hit the previous record on 15 January 2018.

The sentiment got a lift after lowering the additional borrowing requirement for the current budgetary to ₹20,000 crore from ₹50,000 crore estimated earlier. The shares worth ₹693.17 crore were bought by the Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs), while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold equities worth ₹246.38 crore on 16 January 2018.
