In a rather amusing statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that India-Israel relationship is like a “marriage made in heaven but consecrated on earth”. The statement came as reassuring response to India’s vote against Israel in the Jerusalem issue at the UN which was believed to strain bilateral ties between the two countries. Netanyahu expressed disappointment but stated that one UN vote cannot sabotage Israel’s long term goodwill and support with India.

Last month, India joined 127 countries to vote in the United Nations General Assembly in favour of a resolution opposing US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The resolution was approved at 127-9 at UNGA.

Eulogizing Narender Modi as a “great leader” Netanhayu said that the Prime Minister was “impatient to bring future to his people.”

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj called on Mr. Netanyahu on Sunday to hold on discussions on strategic partnership between the two nations and strengthening political and economical association. “We are here in  India on a historic visit. it is important for the state of Israel that one of the major powers wants to develop close realtions in many areas- economics, trade, security and agriculture,” Mr. Netanyahu stated during his meeting with Ms. Swaraj.

The visit is going to witness major strategic agreements and delegation level talks between the two countries in all spheres such as oil and gas, cyber security, technology and agriculture. India has already been a huge market to Israel manufactured arms and weapons strengthening the defence cooperation. Now since Israel is a blooming industrial hub, India’s importance in being a major auto dealer could see future deals with car manufacturers.
