US President Donald Trump today proposes a merit-based immigration system, expressing acceptance to only those people who can help America become “strong and great again”. The decision would observe a major impact on immigrants from all over the world benefitting skilled Indian techies by reducing over all migration.
“I, as President, want people coming into our country who are going to help us become strong and great again, people coming in through a system based on MERIT,” Trump said in a tweet.
A legislation backed by the Trump administration pushing for merit-based immigration and increasing the allotment of Green Cards by a hefty 45 per cent annually has been introduced in the House of Representatives, a move that could benefit Indian techies if signed into law.
The legislation ‘Securing America’s Future Act‘ if passed by Congress and signed into law by US President Donald Trump will end the diversity visa programme and reduce the overall immigration levels from currently averaging 1.05 million to 260,000 a year.
Since his campaigning for the presidential run, it has been Mr. Trump’s favourite subject and the most controversial one. He was recently reported to reiterate racist slur calling Haiti and other African countries as “shithole”. However, a merit-based system would be a just and agreeable as other countries like Canada and Australia do.
