Hindustan aeronautical limited (HAL) received a request for proposal of production of 15 light combat helicopters for Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Army. This request was received just the day after Indian Air Force issued a request for proposal of 83 Tejas light combat aircraft in MK-1A configuration.
This light combat helicopter is of 5.5-tonne, multirole attack class developed by HAL. It plays a major role in providing close air support to ground units and is the only helicopter in the world which can attack from the height of 12000 feets. The LCH performed its maiden flight on 29 March 2010.
Indian Armed Forces felt the need of light combat helicopters in Kargil war. LCH is a kind of helicopter which can be used in high altitude climate and for light combat. This was also the first helicopter to land in Siachen.
5 HAL-LCH for Army
