The Indian Armed Forces are the military forces of India consisting of three professional services: the Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. Indian Air Forces are basically the Air arm of the Armed Forces, protecting all of us from high above risking their own lives. It has been ranked fourth amongst the air forces of the world when it comes to the personnel and the aircraft assets. Achieving great heights and making India proud is on their nerves. A common aim of sacrificing themselves for the people of India resides among them all. They carry out aerial warfare during an armed conflict and look after the Indian airspace.

Established on 8th October 1932 by the British Empire, it was honourably known as the Royal Indian Air Force back then, but only three years after the independence of India in 1947, the prefix ‘Royal’ was removed. It has been involved in many wars with Pakistan and the People’s Republic of China along with undertaking major operations like Operation Vijay, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Cactus and Operation Poomalai.

The Supreme Commander of the Indian Air Force(IAF) is the President of India. It had already climbed the highest mountains of six continents i.e. Mt. Everest (Asia), Mt. Aconcagua (South America), Mt. Carstensz Pyramid (Australasia), Mt. McKinley (South America), Mt. Elbrus (Europe) and Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa). Recently it has become the first organisation to accomplish the “Seven Summit” by scaling Mt Vinson in Antarctica as well. Mt Vinson stands tall at 16050 feet. It is 21 km long and 13 km wide lying within the Sentinel range of the Ellsworth Mountains.

IAF mountaineering expedition team was complimented for their achievement by the words of Chief of IAF ACM BS Dhanoa who said, “We feel proud of our air warriors, who flew Indian Flag and Indian Air Force flag atop of the Mt Vinson. I am sure that this endeavour will motivate many warriors beyond them.”

The air warriors pose to be real heroes, setting up goals and accomplishing them. They, therefore, prove that they deserve the rank and respect they have achieved. By Scaling the Seven Summits, they’ve given great honour to our Indian National Flag to officially rule from the top of the world. There wouldn’t be a matter of pride greater than this for patriotic souls and all those who have accepted mother India as their own.
