Petya ransomware is a cybersecurity challenge but it has a solution

Petya ransomware is the second biggest cyber attack after that of WannaCry.  It has adversely impacted corporate networks across the world.

As per the report of Symantec, India is the seventh worst hit country adversely affected nation by Petya ransomware while Ukraine is the top most hit country by the Petya ransomware.

What is  Petya ransomware?

Petya Ransomware is a malware which ransoms the money in bitcoins from the user by encrypting files, locking the disk and blocking further use of system until bitcoins are received.

 

What was its origin?

It has originated in cyberspace of Ukraine through an accounting and a tax software package called as MEdoc. It has multiple mechanisms to take control of corporate house after invading in its system.

 

How is to save from encrypting files and getting blocked to use our system? 

Petya ransomware infects the system but encrypting occurs when the system reboots. System user has to break this cycle by interrupting rebooting through switching off power supplies to the system after seeing the following message –
