Hyderabad woman set on fire by her jilted lover dies

A 25-year-old woman Sandhya Rani, was splashed with petrol and burnt alive by her jilted lover in front of public on the main road of Shanti Nagar in Lallaguda on Thursday evening. She was rushed to Gandhi Hospital were a doctor said that she had received about 70% burns.
Vanga Karthik,25, was taken in police remand on Thursday. Police have now modified his charges and book him for murder.
At the time of the funeral, her family demanded maximum punishment for Karthik and said that Sandhya was the main source of income in the family.
The whole incident took place around 6:45 pm when Sandhya was on her way to home. Sandhya was followed by Karthik, who later set her on fire.
Shravan, a local youth who came to rescue Rani after listening to her screams, said,”We tried to quench the fire with the help of blankets, mud and then called for an ambulance. She ran few feets before falling to the ground. Till then the attackers had escaped away”
Rani worked as a computer operator in a Metal Workshop(Lucky Traders). Mr. V. Jagan Reddy owner of Lucky Traders said,” Karthik worked for one and a half year in the workshop and was dismissed for not performing well“.
Mr. Reddy also says that Rani had complained that Karthik was forcing her to marry him.
“On Wednesday, Rani said that she can’t accept Karthik’s proposal because he was unemployed and on Thursday she handed a smartphone asking me to return it to him,” said Mr. Reddy.
Later on Thursday evening, Karthik met Rani after she left for home. Police say CCTV footages from cameras along the 500-meter route to the crime scene, shows Rani and Karthik in a discussion.
Telangana Minister T. Srinivas Yadav announced a two-bedroom house in the State’s housing project and cash as compensation, besides ensuring justice to the family.
