NASA to “touch” sun in 2018

Yes, you heard it right. NASA(The National Aeronautics and Space Administration) is about to launch Parker Solar Probe mission which took almost 60 years of exertion, with the motto to touch the sun will soon be accomplished in 2018.The sun, on which we are dependent from dawn to dusk, from winter to summer is enormous with lots of mysteries and wonders. The Parker Solar  Probe is a robotic spacecraft designed by NASA.Previously known as the solar probe, solar probe plus has been renamed after the famous astrophysicist Eugene Parker who has revolutionized the theories of solar winds and Parker spiral.This is also the first time a NASA spacecraft has been named after a living person.

This spacecraft will be launched in summers (July-august) by the vehicle  Delta IV Heavy which is currently world’s highest capacity rocket in operation. Parker Probe has been designed to swoop within 4 miles to the sun’s surface with the speed of 450,000 miles per hour.It has the capacity to bear the intense heat of the sun (whose atmosphere temperature is about 2 million degrees C).It uses solar shadow shield which is made up of carbon-carbon composites which are the poor conductor of heat, will maintain the temperature, along with that it also uses pumped-fluid cooling to maintain the operating temperature of the spacecraft.

This marvelous creation of science has marked the history of this era.

Previously, Helices, Pioneer, Genesis spacecraft et cetera had been sent for solar missions.

THIS MISSION OF EXTREMES has scientific goals to know about some of the sun’s entities which includes solar winds acceleration and flow of energy particles in corona(Corona is the outermost part of sun’s atmosphere), electric and magnetic fields. and many more.This also includes the information about the life of stars, major space-weather events and its impact on our planet, sun’s atmosphere etc which in turn help us from unpredictable solar flares.

If everything goes accordingly, the spacecraft will zoom close to the sun about 24 times in between 2018-2025.
