Facebook to refurbish its news feed, says Zuckerberg

Facebook CEO Mr. Mark Zuckerberg stated out plans to make major changes to how its news feed works, making posts from business, brands and media less prominent.
Unlike previous years where Mr. Zuckerberg’s new year resolutions were focused on personal growth, in 2018 he resolute to ‘fix’ Facebook. The decision, as stated by Zuckerberg in his post, comes out to ensure that, “the time we all spend on Facebook is time well spent.” Abuse or hate posts, clickbait videos, and other junk would be swept out in the coming weeks.
The primary content to feature in user’s news feed would be related to family and friends which has always been the core of the social media platform that Facebook is. For example, a holiday video posted by a family would be given more preference over a fancy restaurant advertising its décor or other attractions. If the public content is to be promoted it will now have to be seen to encourage community interaction as happens between close groups discussing sports and entertainment. The agenda is to replace passive engagements with more meaningful social interactions between people and communities.
Analysts suggest a heavy loss to brands and businesses whose major chunk of advertisement and publicity depends on Facebook circulation. Some viral platforms may get out of business overnight. This might also result in less time being spent on Facebook and reduce engagement. But since the firm hasn’t yet come out with the criteria of selection according to the relevancy of posts, the end results cannot be comprehended yet.
