With leader board dominated by Sabastian Vettel and dear old Lewie struggling to keep up, Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps will be an important day for both the races.
Where Vettel is looking to strengthen his lead on the table, it will be a rather important race for Hamilton.
Not only he is looking to gain some very valuable point, but he would want to win the 200th race of his career.
Winning a pole in Belgium Grand Prix will also put Hamilton’s name with German Legend, Michal Schumacher‘s, matching his 68 pole position record.
SPA circuit is known for deadly high speed turns and elevated apexes which can give even the best of the best a run for his money.
So far, Ferrari has the upper hand with most wins (constructor) in the history of Belgian Grand Prix, but with Lotus and Mclaren out of the picture, Mercedes has a fighting chance to place its name up with the masters.
As far as drivers go, both Vettel and Hamilton have 2 wins on the SPA circuit, but last few races have been tough on Hamilton, with his fourth in Hungarian GP and Austrian GP.
Mercedes camp has been practicing hard since Thursday, with Hamilton clocking 1.45.555 in Practice 1 and 1.44.753 in Practice 2, which is faster than Kimi’s 1.45.105 back in 2004 and Vettel’s 1.47.263 in 2009.
It is even faster than German Legend’s Belgian Grand Prix record of 1.47.176.
Keeping this up, Hamilton might be able to set the record and crunch that 16 point gap to 7 point trail, assuming Vettel finishes second.
